Rare Article: Oh, the Memories...

I'm busy this week, so a new Rare Article isn't going to go up. HOWEVER! I didn't want to leave you empty handed, so I concocted a little scheme. Way before I was actually a PKMNcastmember, I was a gigantic fan of ISE. I wanted to be on the podcast really badly! I emailed SBJ with a sample of what I could do if I wrote for the site. Because it stunk, it didn't get me on the website, but I thought it would be silly and entertaining for you folks to read my first attempt (of many) at being a PKMNcastmenber. So here it goes! (Disclaimer: This was written before Black and White were released. Also, the views of the past version of myself do not necessarily reflect the views of the present version of myself or those of PKMNcast. Apparently I hated legendaries or something.)

MOTW: Yawn

Heya guys, Kenny here! Sorry for not having an article up last week, I was busy getting stuff ready with NuzleafGreen. Now that things have settled down however, it's time to look at another move! This week: Yawn!

Yawn is a Normal-Type Status-Category move with 10 PP (max 16 PP). Unless specific conditions are met, Yawn will always succeed. This is different from the move Spore. Although Spore has an accuracy of 100%, it may still miss due to accuracy modifications. Basically, it still needs to pass an accuracy check. Yawn bypasses the check, therefore immediately succeeding (under normal circumstances).

Yawn will take two turns the work. If Yawn succeeds, you will be informed that the foe has "grown drowzy". The drowziness itself does not do anything, rather it is informing you that your opponent will fall asleep next turn. Note that drowziness is not a status condition in any form whatsoever.

Now I did say that there are some ways to counter this move, didn't I? Well, let's get onto those! Abilities that prevent sleep such as Vital Spirit or Insomnia render the move useless. As previously stated, the "drowsiness" from Yawn is not a status effect. This does not mean, however, that Yawn will work if the opponent is affected by another status condition. If your opponent is Paralyzed, Asleep, Burned, Frozen, or Poisoned, Yawn will fail. Yawn is also blocked by moves such as Safeguard, Magic Coat, and Uproar. The easiest way to prevent Pokémon from falling asleep however is to switch out! Like with conditions such as Confusion and Attract, switching out will completely nullify the "drowsiness".

Well, that's it for this edition of MOTW! Stay strong, Trainers!

Rustling Grass - Episode 002

Rustling Grass Episode 002: Poli-Rob

What's Your Favorite Pokemon: My Favourite Pokemon seems to change as often as my underwear (which is often, honest) but if I were to really think about it then I would probably choose Lucario. To me, he is probably the coolest looking Pokemon. His design is awesome and I love his typing. Since I first had him in Pearl he has been a mainstay in my teams, even earning the captains armband (soccer reference).

What Was Your First Pokemon Experience: I remember Pokemon RED/BLUE came...

PKMN of the Week: Magcargo

The first time I came across this particular pokémon I didn't think it was "real."  I distinctly remember (because it was two months ago), I was sitting on my brother's couch reviewing his old (i.e., worthless) pokémon trading cards with my four year old nephew.  My nephew pulled it out of the stack to show me.

"What's this one, Uncle Willy?" he asked.

"I don't know, I've never seen that one before."

Seriously.  I thought it was some kind of aberration.  A pokémon that had to have been made up only for the trading card game.  I took the time to look this guy up on Bulbapedia and was surprised to see that he had been introduced in Generation II.  I had played Pokémon Gold!

The second time I saw this guy was in the anime episode "Some Like it Hot."  Really?  an entire episode devoted to this most forgettable of pokémon?  He's so bad I even forgot he existed at all!?  Geez.  That episode didn't even have particularly good plot.  An oversized one was blocking the path Ash, Brock, and Misty were taking so they needed someone to capture it.  There you go.

Oh well - since we are done covering all of the 600+ level competitive pokémon, it's time for a palette cleanser - Magcargo.

Saturday Sketch

So, Welcome back to the beginning of June!

Can you believe it’s been Six months since the beginning of the year already!?

Only days closer to Black and White 2!

But anyways enough on which we know what is coming, Let’s move on to Saturday Sketch!

So again this week is not really a sketch,

It’s more of the progress and amazing work that has been done on the Minecraft Server I host for the PKMNcast.

Some amazing Pixel arts have shown up since the opening of the server a few months back.

So today I would like to toss a few screenshots up in the spotlight!

We got Glameow, and Politoed, made by Navy.

With Starmie cloesly in the background made by Masietown.

Scraggy made by Travis, and Zorua made by RKOVoices, Zekrom and Charmander by Masietown, The Groudon by Steven/Unggoy14.

There are so many that have been made it is hard to count them all!

So many amazing people have contributed to making this server look amazing!

“Sorry if you’re the creator of one of these and I didn’t mention your name”

Well I hope you enjoyed this!

I am amazed at the effort and time put into this all!

The server is still open however the population has dropped. “Possibly because of Diablo 3 and other big video game releases at this time.”

If you would like to join, Follow @PKMNminecraft and the information for the server will be dispensed from there!

Rare Article: 3 Things Newer Competitive Players Miss

Beginning to understand competitive battling mechanics is, actually, pretty easy. It's fully mastering competitive strategy that gets very, very tough. I am by no means an expert (that last clause is pronounced "please don't make me feel sad by yelling at me if I get something wrong,) but here are three things that I've learned during my time playing Pokémon competitively that weren't very obvious at first.
