Battle City was funded on Kickstarter in the Spring of 2013. The Kickstarter project was backed by over 200 different people because they wanted a Pokémon art show to happen. The money raised was used to secure a venue, print art, frame art, print amazing art books, and more. Any profit made at the show was donated to the Child's Play Charity! This was the second year that Steve Black Jr. hosted a Pokémon inspired art show. 2012 was the first year an art show happened. That show was titled "649 Monsters" and it raised $1,000 for the Child's Play Charity.
